  2. I predict that the booking fees when added up will make me very very sad, I really would like a chance for these fees (£30 for one internet transaction - postage in addition!) to be donated to a good cause. How can it be so expensive to run a few servers?

  7. Can I say I applaud the restriction of extra paraphernalia in the arena? I am glad, though that folding chairs are still allowed, as along with most people in their 50's, I can't sit on the ground or on a fishing type chair with any comfort. I believe a good balance has been struck.

  8. We are camping for the first time on Coldham's Common and will not be bringing any cooking equipment. Will I be able to purchase a cup of tea on the campsite first thing in the morning?

  9. Hi
Absolutely...you will be able to get a cup of tea, cappuccino, bacon buttie, full English, a breakfast pancake or a variety of other options!

  12. Food at the Festival

Do we have to suffer the same food stalls and all the expense - wouldn't it be lovely to have food stalls selling more imaginative and greener meals at more affordable prices - of particular boringness is the CoOp food tent - oh deah

  13. can i put up my caravan awning if at Coldhams

  14. Looking forward to it after the box office held up my ticket for no apparent reason (got it now). Hope they stop footballs being kicked around the tents this year, no doubt the organisers don't want to pay for any damage now they have been warned. Check out health and safety on this.
Re above comments, I've never had trouble with alcohol and yes, take note of the web information, no glass! If you're stopped or it is confiscated you only have yourself to blame. Food is available in Cherry Hinton going one way, or along Cherry Hinton Road going the other, there are plenty of take aways and pubs around in 10-20 minutes walk if you want a change, as well as Budgens supermarket heading towards Cambridge or the big post office in Cherry Hinton if you don't like Co-op. I can't say if it is the type of food you're looking for as it tends to be unsophisticated (probably read into that "non-green and fried")
I look forward to seeing everyone and having a great festival as usual.
Can I make a suggestion, does anyone agree that the intimate atmosphere of Stage 2 is the place for the singer songwriters while the more dancy groups are more suited to Stage 1 which the singer songwriters tend to interrupt as they are often too quiet to hear outside in the main arena? It might stop the mass migrations as well.

    Be seeing you

  15. First time at festival. Is it easy to get from Coldham to the music venues?

  16. Oh, also, when do we have to pack up and go by? Ta.

  17. surely the idea of this facility is that cambridge folk festival checks these posts and replies to them ? otherwise what is the point ?

  18. Heading down to the festival later today (Fri 29th)

Enjoy the music & atmosphere, y'all - and treat everyone around you how you'd hope they'll treat you.

Nowt funny about PL&U, sez Elvis...

  19. Am I alone in thinking that I saw Martin Simpson help put Richard Thompson's guitars on the stage? If so, did he play anywhere? The man beside me from Lincolnshire saw him too!

  20. My wife spotted Martin Simpson, he wasn't playing but the rumour was that his son did.

I agree, these posts should be replied to but if you want a chat go on facebook, they are all there, it seems a blog is old hat and the children want new toys. Each to his own but it's getting lonely here.

I repeat an earlier suggestion of singer songwriters on stage 2, dance groups on stage 1. On Sunday Femi Kuti got the crowd going only to have it killed by Mary Chapin Carpenter and Laura Marling, both good artists in their own right and better in smaller more intimate surroundings. It was a long wait for the debacle that was the beginning of Peatbog Fairies, and no extra time to make up for the loss at the beginning of the set!

  21. You come up with the stupid idea of selling next year's tickets now, but only online then employ a company who don't deliver. I have waited 7 hours since my order for the confirmatory e-mail. Nothing! Why doesn't Camb Folk honour the promises of their agents? Please fix by tomorrow. I note on Facebook I am not the only one with the problems. Take this as a 7 day notice that legal action in the County Court for specific performance and damages for my frayed nerves will follow if the contract is not honoured. The longer it takes to get the e-mails sent out confirming the purchase, the more expensive my PTSD will get! Note well.

  22. Over 24 hours, still no e-mail notification from your agents re my tickets for 2012!!!!!!

I checked their web site which says my tickets are ordered but as it also says e-mail notification has been sent, I have no confidence.

They are your agents Cambridge Folk and Council, please sort them out and makke them do the job which presumably you are paying them to do. They promise a 6 hour notification.

Don't try and ignore this or say that we should contact Seetickets. it is your responsibility!!!

If in any doubt I can give you a lecture on legal responsibility for an agent's actions, I do not mean ticket agent I mean agent in the legal sense.

I await your response with interest as no doubt do the customers on Facebook who also raise the same problem.

  23. I note my last comment above is timed at 01:23, I posted at 09:23, it is now 09:25. Doesn't anything work properly?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Could you please email neil.jones@cambridge.gov.uk with your details (name, address etc).

Dear everyone else: apologies for the lack of response on here. We are focusing our attention on Facebook / Twiiter as that seems to be the most popular communication channel. Not ignoring you though...promise!

  25. I do not want to enter into correspondence, only to have the problem you have not referred to resolved ie Seetickets doing what they say when tickets are ordered and paid for. It affects those on Facebook as well.

  26. Although there is a comment above about the benefit of folding chair use in the area it was dreadful this year. Worse than ever before. People get there early put out their chairs and often a rug and use it as their base for the day. Quite often people aren't actually using the chairs, or in some cases people brought two chairs so they could put their feet up. I know that many of those present are over 50. If they need chairs could the City Council not create rows of chairs for people to book, as happens at some other outdoor events, then leave the rest free for those of use who like to move around the area and sit on a blanket. Hire of chairs could be an income generator.

Also agree with someone above about better food. We really missed the Blue Moon this year.

  27. As a first time full ticket visitor, I just wanted to say that on the whole we were pretty disappointed...too many people and too small a venue. And as for the sound in the main arena it was pretty awful, and if you are going to use big screens, then take a note from Wembley and use BIG screens ...yours were too small to be of any use, particularly when you're stuck at the back. We will stick to smaller venues next year, and still get to see amazing lineups and artists..somebody told us you hadn't changed the venue in 48 years, no wonder we were like sardines.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't think it is the chairs but the blankets in the arena which take up the space.

Mathematically I take up less space on a chair than on a blanket and you just wouldn't want me stood in front of you, trust me, even though I cannot stand for too long.

  29. First time at the Festival this year. The organisation was excellent - and it was a great atmosphere, with great music, and a lovely location. Well done all.

    Now for the pity....
Simply - there were too many people for the venue. You are killing the golden egg.
Please ensure that you decrease numbers of tickets by 10% next year: or the festival will die.
Chairs are cheap and available - and everyone had them.
It has become a concert areana - not a festival - it was impossible to find a space to sit on the ground - never mind a chair.
Ageing population / nature of the music / nature of the family & all-day event..... All that means - the organisers really have to reconsider the space required per ticket holder..... and this means that the numbers of tickets needs to be drastically reduced to ensure that the Festival remains good value....

In fact I would go so far as to say that it really had become dangerously overcrowded.
Seats are good - but not too many of them. As well as this: a lot of very tall people attended the Festival (a reflection of the demographics!?). Average and shorter people literally do not havea look in.....

Serious consideration required please - to reduce numbers of tickets...
Reduce the performers if needed - it will not reduce the nature of the Festival.
However - continuing to try and cram too many people in - will completely ruin the 'festival' nature of this event - as very limited physical movement around the site and / or seating area in the main venue (which was too big as it meant you were too far away for an open air friendly concert......) will ensue.I don't want just anoter concert - would rather go to a proper concert ..... with chair for comfort..... Enormous venues have limited appeal for those who like folk music, I would have thought..... so it is the Festival ambience we go for..... and that is jeopardised at present..

    For your serious consideration please.
Let us enjoy it - let us not try to cram it in .........

It is a pity to be a victim of it's own success: wish I had gone a few years ago....
